what is level 2 hypoglycaemia?
(severe) <3.0mmol/L
what are the causes of hypoglycaemia?
-Use of drugs (and alcohol)
-Long duration of diabetes
-Sleeping
-Increasing age
-Increased physical activity
-Repeated episodes of non-severe hypoglycaemia
what are the symptoms of hypoglycaemia?
-Trembling
-Sweating
-Anxiety
-Confusion
-Weakness
-Vision changes
-Nausea
-Headache
what are the treatments used for hypo?
-Treat with 15g fast-acting carbs
-Retest in 15 mins to ensure BG >4.0 mmol/L
-Eat a long-acting carb to prevent recurrence of symptoms
what should you do before administering the treatment in hypoglycaemia ?
Recognise symptoms so they can be treated as soon as they occur
Confirm the need for treatment (BG <3.9 mmol/L)
