Hypo/per/iso solutions Flashcards
1
Q
Hypertonic solution
A
Solutes outside the cell are higher therefore concentration of solvents must be lower. (Cell shrivels)
2
Q
Hypotonic solution
A
Concentration of solutes outside the cell is lower therefore concentration of solvents must be higher. (Cell becomes swollen and eventually bursts)
3
Q
Isotonic Solution
A
Solutes outside the cell= Solutes inside the cell ➡no net movement.
4
Q
Plasmolysis
A
Vacuole and Cyptoplasm shrink as a result of lost water and eventually cell membrane pulls away from cell wall.
5
Q
Plant cell states at different concentrations of solutions
A
Turgid (normal), Flaccid and Plasmolysed
