Cell Adaptations Flashcards
Adaptations of a nerve cell
Dendrites to make connections with other cells.
Axon that carries nerve impulses from one place to another.
Synapses (nerve endings) pass impulses to other cells or muscles using special transmitter chemicals. Lots of mitochondria are in the Synapses to make these chemicals.
Sheath. This myelin sheath allows electrical impulses to transmit quickly and efficiently along the nerve cells.
Striated (Striped) Muscle cell adaptations
Contain special proteins that slide over each other to allow fibres to contract.
Contain many mitochondria to provide energy for chemical reactions that take place as cells contract and relax.
Can store glycogen (insoluble) to be used in cellular respiration to transfer energy needed for the fibres to contract.
