Who can be hypnotised
15% of the population can be hypnotised. They must believe or be open to suggestion. 10% of the population cannot be hypnotised. NOT EVERYONE CAN BE HYPNOTISED
Applications of hypnosis
Include
- pain control
- treatment of warts/ skin disease
- breaking bad habits (smoking, biting nails, over eating)
- weight loss ( imaginary gastric band)
- treat phobias/ fears
- treating headaches or asthma
- therapy
Stage hypnosis: Real Or Fake
Fake!
Used for entertaining an audience don’t by entertainers not psychologist.
The shows can be planned & audience members ‘planted’ there- fully aware of what they must do to convince the audience.
Careful selection of participants because not everyone can be hypnotised. They play a social role.
Most participants have seen hypnosis in the media & are aware of how they should/ expected to act.
The leader is seen as an authority figure, which the participants are able to follow orders.
What is hypnosis
Special condition of increased suggestibility that a person may experience after being instructions to suggest they will enter this condition.
