Causes of hypertension
A
Primary - no single evident cause (often familial)
Secondary - identifiable cause: renal disease, endocrine disease eg. Pheochromocytoma

Complications of hypertension
A
Increased risk of ischaemic heart disease, strokes, heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, kidney disease

Management of hypertension
A
Diet and lifestyle advice: reduce salt and alcohol intake, lose weight, increase exercise
ACE inhibitors eg. Lisinopril, Ramipril
Thiazide diuretics eg. Bendroflumethiazide
Calcium channel blockers eg. Amlodipine
