Gestational HTN definition

A

BP elevated after 20 weeks of gestation in the absence of proteinuria or systemic findings that would indicate pre-eclampsia

Pre-eclampsia definition

A

HTN (>/=140/90 on two occasions at least 4 hours apart after 20 weeks gestation in a woman with previously normal BP)

AND

proteinuria (>/=300 mg per 24 hrs) OR P:C >0.3 or dipstick 1+
OR
associated with thrombocytopenia (<100), impaired liver function (LFTs 2x normal), new development of renal insufficiency (Cr >1.1), pulmonary edema, or the new onset of cerebral or visual disturbances

A

Severe features of pre-eclampsia

A

Systolic BP >/=160, or diastolic BP >/=110 on two occasions at least 4 hours apart while the patient is on bed rest (with no anti-hypertensives)
Thrombocytopenia (<100)
Impaired liver function (liver functions 2x normal), RUQ pain or epigastric pain unresponsive to medication
Progressive renal insufficiency (Cr >1.1)
Pulmonary edema
New onset cerebral or visual disturbances
