what does aldosterone do
save Na and water in the kidneys, increasing blood volume
what clinical signs are associated with hypertension
progressive CKD, acute onset blindness, stroke, arrhythmias, heart murmurs
what does angiotensin II do
vasoconstricts
what factors increase hypertension risk
sight hounds, anxiety and stress, obesity
what BP do we treat
if >160 consistently, clinical or if >180
what is our goto cat hypertensive drug
amlodipine (ca channel blocker)
dog hypertensive drug
ACEi benazepril/analepril
what is general treatment for hypertension
hypertensive drugs, diet, weight loss, low sodium diet, rechekc at 3d, or 1wk, then e3mo
what happens if BP is >180
TOD high risk. acute blindness, stroke, etc
you have a patient that is prehypertensive 140-160. what do you do
recheck every 6 mo, maybe diet change and exercise
