Women >45 mg/dL
Men >55 mg/dL
Optimal >60

What is the ideal ratio of LDL to HDL in men and women?
Men: <5.0
Women: <4.5
What is the mechanism of action for HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors?
Inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase
Less cholesterol is produced by liver
Liver makes more LDL receptors
More LDL is removed from the blood
Stabilizes plaque and decreases inflammation
What are adverse reactions of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors?
Myopathy (muscle weakness)
Rhabdomyolysis
Hepatotoxicity
What medications are HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors?
Atorvastatin
Simvastatin
Rosuvastatin
What medication is a cholesterol absorption inhibitor?
Ezetimibe
What is the mechanism of action of Ezetimibe?
Blocks absorption of cholesterol in Jejunum. Dietary, cholesterol secreted in bile. 2nd line therapy to statins.
