1
Q
Name examples of drugs within the statins drug class
A
- Atorvastatin
- Rosuvastatin
- Simvastatin
2
Q
Describe the statins mechanism of action

- Statins work by inhibiting an enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase (plays in a key role in production of cholesterol)
- This lowers LDL in the blood
- Decreases risk of plaque buildup
3
Q
Drug class of ezetimibe ?
A
Cholesterol absorbing inhibitors
4
Q
Describe the mechanism of action for cholesterol absorbing inhibitors
A
- Works by inhibiting the absorption of cholesterol in the small intestine
- Does this by blocking a protein called NPC1L1
- reducing cholesterol absorption causes lower levels of LDL in the blood
