actions and practices that decrease the spread or transmission of pathogens, thereby lessening the occurrence of illness.
Self-Care Ability
Health Status
-Pain
-Limited mobility
-Sensory deficits
-Cognitive impairment
-Mental health disturbances
The Skin
-Largest organ in the body, covering the majority of the outer surfaces of the body
-First line of defense against pathogens
-Serves as a physical barrier to offer protection to the internal parts of the body
-Contains Langerhans cells, whose role is to sense and kill pathogens that are found on the skin trying to enter the body
-
The mucous membranes,
-which are found in the mouth,
respiratory tract,
gastrointestinal tract,
and the urinary tract,
line the body passages that are open to the exterior environment and act as a barrier to pathogens.
Oral hygiene
keeps the mouth and teeth clean by brushing and flossing the teeth twice a day for approximately 2 minutes each time
Effective handwashing is necessary to prevent
health care-associated infections (HAIs).
Health promotion can be viewed as
facilitating the client’s control over and improving their general health
Clients who are referred to as “bariatric” are of
increased weight or body mass index (BMI).
Increased BMI causes distinctive physiological changes that affect
skin integrity, such as extremely deep skin folds, especially in the abdominal region.
Clients with dementia may have difficulty performing
personal hygiene activities, which can be the first sign of dementia.
Clients who are at a higher risk for infection should have
their feet more closely monitored as infections can cause serious foot problems.
Longer nail length has been shown to
conceal a greater number of germs as compared to shorter nail length.
Perineal care is performed to avoid
infections,
odors, and irritation in the perineum.
A complete bed bath is defined as
A partial bed bath is defined as
-the nurse or another designated health care provider giving the client a bath in the bed.
