Purpose of Hygiene
prevent disease transmission & Minimize allergic reactions
Things to keep in mind when it comes to hygiene
fresh, clean breath
long hair tied back
facial hair neatly trimmed
control perspiration
avoid perfume or scented lotions/sprays
nails trimmed with no polish
no jewelry
keep hands moisturized
wash hands/forearms before and after each client
Standard precautions
the minimum infection prevention practices that apply to all patient care, regardless of suspected or confirmed infection status of the patient, in any setting where healthcare is delivered
standard precautions include:
hand hygiene
PPE
respiratory health/cough ettiquette
sharps safety and injection practices
sterile instruments and devices
clean and disinfected environmental surfaces
Be aware that cell phones are considered
hight-touch surfaces
if soap and water isn’t readily available use
alcohol based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol
environmental cleaning
cleaning and disinfection of environmental surfaces and surfaces of noncritical patient care equipment
