What is a complex river regime?
One based on a river with lots of tributaries which flow through a variety of climates and environments.
What does a storm hydrograph plot?
A rivers discharge during one single storm event
What 2 things do storm hydrographs show?
- The amount of rainfall in a storm event
- The rivers hourly discharge
What does the bar graph on a storm hydrograph show?
The amount of rainfall in mm
What does the line graph on a storm hydrograph show?
The rivers discharge
What does base flow refer to on a storm hydrograph?
The amount of water in the river to begin with
What does storm flow refer to on a storm hydrograph?
The extra water in the river after the storm
What does the rising limb refer to on a storm hydrograph?
Where the discharge rises as more rain water reaches the river
What does the falling limb refer to on a storm hydrograph?
Where the rivers discharge reduces as water seeps out of the river bank and into the ground as through flow.
