Hydrocephalus and CSF stuff Flashcards
Non-communicating hydrocephalus
That’s when there is a structural blockage of CSF.. causes massive headache, can cause death
Communicating CSF
Non- obstructive….Poor absorption by arachnoid granulations leads to increased intracranial pressure, papilledema and herniation
Normal pressure hydrocephalus
Expansion of ventricles without any increase in CSF
Triad of Wet, Wobbly, Wacky
Urinary incontinence, ataxia, confusion
What is pseudotumor cerebri
Benign intracranial hypertension
You see high intracranial pressure but no increase in CSF. Patients are generally younger obese women. They’ll have daily headaches, can progress to loss of vision if it gets bad. WILL HAVE PAPILLEDEMA!!!
