Hydraulic Bursts Flashcards

1
Q

Initial actions of the Attack party leader ?

A
  • perform a fire risk assessment
  • Report to DCHQ the location and any actions carried out to isolate the burst.
  • Report any other hazards caused by the burst

Q

What needs to be done before using a dry powder extinguisher ? And why ?

A
  • Don EBS prior to operating dry powder.
  • Dry powder can damage human respiratory system.

Q

Initial actions if you find a hydraulic burst ?

A
  • raise the alarm by quickest means possible.
  • Don an EBS mask
  • Attempt to contain the mist with dry powder extinguisher.
  • Attempt to shut the supply vv to the burst.

Q

Indications of a hydraulic burst ?

A
  • fine high pressured mist or pool of fluid.
  • Loud hissing noise that reduces as replenishment tank empties.
  • Smell is not easily identifiable due to atmospheric mix of oils onboard.
  • Slightly tangy taste if you were to walk into mist.
  • Rep tank level and plant pressure indications on PMS start to drop.

6
Q

When the SCOOW pipes “stop snorting and ventilating” it is an order for the ships company to ?

A

Shut all hull vvs, lower masts and stop any trimming ops.

This allows all systems to be operated and put into normal state mode prior to hydraulic isolations being made.

16
Q

What situation is normal gain mode used ?

A

Used for all normal operations

17
Q

What situation would low gain mode be used in ?

A

Used when stealth is required - during quiet ops or when a reduction in hydraulic load is required (eg. Hydraulic burst)

18
Q

To adopt manual control the SCOOW orders ?

A

“Planes in manual” or “rudder to manual”

19
Q

Once the SCOOW has ordered to adopt manual control what does the planesman do ?

What about if urgent control is required ?

A

Presses the manual override buttons and reports that he has control in manual.

And he presses the emergency override button on the joystick if urgent control is required.

20
Q

Rate control is ordered when ?

A

Control surfaces fail to respond in auto/ manual control.

Or

There is any PMS failure.

21
Q

To select rate control the planesman has to ?

A

Select the hydraulic plant on the hydraulic control panel then press the rate control IPB on the panel for the effected control surface.

22
Q

How does the operator test the control surface ?

A

By attempting to move it.
