Emergencies - HP AIR/GAS BURST Flashcards
Indications of a HP air or gas burst
Noise
Noticeable pressure rise in compartment (ears pop)
HPA bottle group pressure indication’s at SCC.
Low level alarms on PMS of bottle groups may indicate loss of pressure
Nitrogen bursts may see personnel become unwell/ unconscious.
When do you assume a burst is gas or air ?
Gas = if it’s AFT of 64 WTB until proven to be air.
Air = if it’s FWD of 64 WTB
Actions to take at the scene of an air or gas burst.
If located AFT don EBS immediately as it could be nitrogen
Shut N215 isolation for the WFF storage bottles.
Raise the alarm by any means
If identified try to isolate the burst by shutting vvs, report vvs shut to attack party leader and Ship control/ DCHQ
Monitor local indication gauges to identify the system/ location
Actions taken by MR if hp air / gas burst occurs ?
Stop the HPACs
Shut N215 (preserve nitrogen in Water mist fire fighting system.)
Monitor all nitrogen system pressures.
Get a report of all personnel AFT of 64 WTB.
have medical staff monitor oxygen levels
If identified as an air burst reopen N215 to maintain fire fighting capability AFT.
What do ships control pipe in a hp burst aft ?
Hp gas burst x3 in (location) don EBS in (location)
What do ships control pipe in hp burst fwd ?
Hp air burst 3x in (location)
If burst aft is identified as air what do ship control pipe ?
Hp gas burst is a hp air burst remove EBS in (locations)
Ship control pipe when all GIVs are shut ?
All HPA group isolating vvs are shut
Ship control pipe if all GIVs are shut or HPA system has been isolated between 64WTB and 26DCB ?
Man emergency blows in hand
Actions taken by other personnel during the incident ?
All personnel aft don ebs immediately
Medical staff monitor oxygen levels using dräger
Emergency blows are manned for operation in local control if required
If GIVs have been shut, they would then be manned in prep to reopen under executive order.
How do you reopen a GIV ?
Wait for an executive order and then bleed the vv using a tuning fork and then open the vv after the “permit to open” switch has been operated on the SCC.
Actions taken if a burst occurs in harbour ?
If running stop the HPACs
Isolate shore air supply
Shut N215
Isolate shore nitrogen supply
If burst is indicated on any pressure instrumentation SHUT ALL GIVs
Actions taken if a burst occurs in harbour ?
If running stop the HPACs
Isolate shore air supply
Shut N215
Isolate shore nitrogen supply
If burst is indicated on any pressure instrumentation SHUT ALL GIVs
