Hydes Representation Flashcards
How can Hyde be presented as primal and murderous
Hyde is presented as primal when he murder sir Danvers Carew “with ape like fury” within chapter 4 “the Carew murder case”
His murderous side is seen when he tramples on the girl breaking both her legs without a care “Hyde trampled calmly over her” in chapter 1 “story of the door”
How can Hyde be presented as Jekyll’s opposite?
In appearance and personality
Jekyll is presented as “is a tall fine build of a man” by Poole in chapter 8 “the last night” Hyde however is presented as “mr Hyde was pale and dwarfish” by utterson in chapter 2 “the search for mr Hyde”there height difference between “tall” and “dwarfish” makes there physical height opposites
Personality wise Jekyll describes himself as “I had been safe of all men’s respect” in chapter 10 “Henry Jekylls full statement on the case” and Hyde however is presented as “a really damnable young man” in chapter 1 “story of the door” This makes there views of one another from other people as the opposite as Jekyll is well respected by “all men” and Hyde is seen as a “damnable young man” meaning he is forbidden
