The experiment- we learn the consequences of science and that it can be presented as DANGEROUS, this is seen through Dr Jekyll having to kill himself to stop the overpowering of Hyde to kill him too in the process

This shows the dangers of science as Jekyll constant desire to experiment further led him to kill himself as Hyde gets stronger and takes over his body. The phrase used here ‘sorely contorted’ shows how science changed Jekyll and who he becomes because of it as it “contorted” his very self
