Acts of Attainder
Declared a landowner guilty of rebelling against a monarch
Bonds
A legal document which bound an individual to another to forfeit a sum of money/ perform an act
Bureaucrats
An official in government, perceived as becoming concerned with procedural correctness at the expense of people’s needs
The Council
The inner circle of nobility that advised Henry
Council Learned in Law
Introduced in 1495 to defend Henry’s position as a feudal landlord, maintain the kings revenue and exploit his prerogative rights
Court of Exchequer
Processing finance through an administrative department
Courtier
A person who attends a royal court as a companion or adviser to the monarch
Crown Lands
land belonging to the king by virtue of being monarch

A significant body of property, mostly situated in Lancashire. Belonged to the King - formally territory of the Duke

Select groups that are Superior in terms of ability, birth or qualities to the rest of society

A right by which the crown could impose a tax on their tenants for the knighting of the eldest son or the marriage of the eldest daughter

The medieval system by which society was structured depending on relationships in which land was held in return for some form of service

power that was delegated to local authority to keep things in order in regions

a sign of the kings confidence. He was loyal to trusted servants

The king was paid in order for someone to recover land from wardship

Experienced nobleman and member of the kings council, a personal friend of the king

A member of the higher ranks of the nobility

Honour given to the kings closest servants

legislative body of government, helped Henry consolidate power after Bosworth
Patronage
The system by which the crown distributed favours to those who were seen as loyal

A monarchs authority is tied to the King rather than a government
