What was the Hungarian uprising?
It was when the Hungarians got fed up of Rakosi and they demanded change, after being influenced by Khruschev that they could have free speech they protested in front of Parliament with flags with the communism logo cut out of it, in October 1956 this led to the uprising and they fought off the soviet soldiers and pulled down the statue of Stalin, they thought they had won, they elected the popular Imre Nagy and he said he would allow free election and he said there woukd no longer be secret police. He then told the Hungarians that he would withdraw from the warsaw pact, however when Khrushchev found out he was furious so he sent many soviet troops and the Hungarians got completely out numbered. Hundreds were killed and even though America said they would help them they never came in because they were too afraid of starting a nuclear war.

Why was Rakosi forced to resign
He was told to resign because he was not de-stalinising Hungary, he told people he resigned for health ressons
What did Khrushchev want
He wanted to de-stalinise Hungary as he believed that communism and capitalism could co-exist.
