Humoral system Flashcards
What is the structure of IgG?
Monomer
What is the structure of IgA?
Dimer
What is the structure of IgM?
Pentamer or Monomer
What is the structure of IgE?
Monomer
What is the structure of IgD?
Monomer
Which the most abundant antibody?
IgG
Which is the largest antibody?
IgM
Which antibody crosses the placenta?
IgG
Which antibody is transferred in breast milk?
IgA
Where is IgM found?
It is the first responder in primary immune response. Released by plasma cells
Which antibodies activate the classical pathway of the complement system?
IgG and IgA
Which antibodies are involved in type 2 hypersensitivity reaction?
IgG and IgA
Which antibody is involved in type 1 hypersensitivity reaction?
IgE
Which antibody is a pentamer?
IgM
Where is IgD found?
Transmembrane antibody found on plasma cells
Where is IgA found?
Breast milk, GI mucosa, urogenital system, sweat, saliva
Where is IgE found?
Respiratory tract mucosa, lymphatic tissue, gi mucosa, urogenital system
Which cells does IgE act on?
Causes degranulation of mast cells to release histamine (type 1 hypersensitivity reaction)
What is the Fab region?
Antigen binding fragment = made up of 1 light chain variable region and 1 heavy chain variable region
Which section on an antibody binds to antigens?
Variable light and heavy chains = antigen binding region (fab)
What is the Fc region of the antibody?
Constant fragment = heavy and light constant chains - binds to complement proteins
How are heavy and light chains held together?
With di-sulphide bonds
What kind of molecule is an antibody?
A glycoprotein
What is humoral immunity?
Immunity mediated by antibodies rather than cell mediated immunity
