Humerus Flashcards
Head
Rounded head on the proximal end of the bone. Articulates with the glenoid fossa of the scapula.
Greater Tubercle
Placed on the anterior, but this one is the larger, more posterior bony lump that projects more laterally.
Lesser Tubercle
Small, blunt eminence on the anterolateral side of the proximal humerus.
Intertubercular groove
Begins between the lesser and greater tubercles and extends down longitudinally down the proximal shaft.
Deltoid Tuberosity
Placed on the lateral surface of the shaft. Has a rough surface and spirals around the shaft from posterosuperior to anteroinferior.
Medial Epicondyle
Projection from the bone on the medial side of the distal end of the bone. Provides the space for the attachment of the ulnar collateral ligament.
Capitulum
Rounded eminence that forms the lateral portion of distal surface of the humeral surface. It articulates with the head of the radius.
Trochlea
The notch or spool shaped medial portion of the distal humeral surface that articulates with the ulna.
Orecranon fossa
The largest of three hollows on the distal humeral surface. It is posterior, accommodating the orecranon process of the ulna during forearm extension.
