Fibula Flashcards
Styloid Process
The most proximal projection of the bone, forming the posterior part of the head.
Medial Surface
The slightly anteriorly facing surface between the anterior and interosseous boarders.
It is concave.
Lateral Surface
Faces laterally and somewhat anteriorly. The lateral surface lies between the anterior and posterior borders. This is flat.
Posterior Surface
Lies between the interosseous boarder and the posterior boarder. The medial crest is located on the posterior surface.
Interosseous Crest
This is an elevated crest that runs down the medial surface of the shaft.
Lateral Malleolus
The inferiormost/distalmost projection of the fibula. Its lateral, nonarticular surface is subcutaneous, forming the lateral knob of the ankle.
Malleolar Fossa
Located just posterior to the distal articular surface.
