Self-actualization-self-fulfillment needs
esteem needs
belongingness and love needs- psychological needs
safety needs
physiological needs- basic needs
SELF-ACTUALISATION
what does self-actualization look like?
Characteristics: tolerate uncertainty, accept self and others, being problem-centered, highly creative, resistant to enculturation, concerned for the welfare of humanity
Behavior: experience life like a child, try new things, listen to your feelings, avoid pretense, take responsibility and work hard, try to identify defenses and work with them
structure of personality has 2 main structures:
organism and self
phenomenal field
the self
ORGANISMIC SELF
Child/adult have a self-concept
congruence: when self-image and ideal self align
INORGANISIMIC SELF
incongruence
conditional positive regards
denial and repression
responsibility for progress lies with client
ideal self-who we would like to be
q-sort method-used to access the match between self and ideal self
THEAREUTIC AIMS
The aim of therapy is to embody a non-directive approach and work to facilitate conditions that promote growth and change.
The therapist is not a figure of authority
the client is in charge
the therapist aligns themselves with the client
the therapist demonstrates THE THREE CORE CONDITIONS
