Brown vs Board Of Education
In 1954 a supreme court case that declared racial segeration in public schools, overturning ‘seperate but equal’. It was a key movement in the Civil Rights Movement
Central High School, Little Rock Nine
In Arkansas the central high school is known for little rock nine, who interegated the school in 1957 amid strong opposition for civil rights and had to be escorted by security
Emancipition Proclamation
Issued by Lincoln on Jan 1st 1863, declared enslaved people in confederate states to be free
Montgamery Bus Boycott
Started in Dec 1955 after Rosa Parks was arrested. African Americans refused to use buses for a year leading to supreme court ruling that ended bus segeration
Birmingham Campaign
In 1963 sought to end segeration in Alabama. Led by Martin Luther King Jr protests and sit ends drew national attention to the civil rights struggle
The March on Washington
The March on Washington was on August 28, 1963, with over 250,000 people advocating for civil rights, featuring Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

Seperate but equal
Justified racial segeration claiming seperate facilities were equal. It was upheld in Plessy vs Ferguson and overturned by Brown vs Board

Process of ending the seperation of racial or ethic groups especially in schools

Process of combining different racial or ethnic groups into a single system or community promoting equality and inclusion
