Yes!
It is the most common STI

90% of people will clear HPV within 2 years, and they won’t know they were infected.
What is HVP associated with?
- warts
- cervical cancer
- growing number of oral cancers, primarily in males
- recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (warts
- cancers of vulva, penis,anus
How can someone get exposed to HPV?
sexual, including oral sex or genital contact
T/f : nearly all sexually active people will become infected with HVP.

What HPV types are associated with recurrent respiratory warts?
type 6, 11
What HPV types are associated with vulva (cervial caners in women), penis and anus cancers ?
Type 16 & 18
How can you Prevent HPV?
HPV vaccine.
(Gardisil, Gardisil-9) - prevents up to 90% of cancers caused by HPV.
Who gets the HPV vaccine?
Both boys and girls
start at age 11-12 and up to age 26
How can you detect HPV early?
- Cervical cancer screenings (pap smears) which detects DNA or RNA of high risk HPV (16,18)
Is there a HPV test for men?
There is not currently an approved HPV test for males.

There is an oral or anal pap test for men and HIV+ people
What is the Treatment for HVP?
There is no treatment for the HPV infection, but warts and pre-cancerous lesions can be treated.
How do you treat precancerous cervical lesions?
LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure)
Surgical conization
Laser ablation.
If a woman has an abnormal PAP, but DNA HPV is negative, What should be done?
monitor over time (test again in 3 years)
