external object or event that can motivate behaviour
Intrinsic
Preforming something for the satisfaction of the activity itself
-the enjoyment of playing a sport
Extrinsic
Performance of an activity for external outcome
eg-for fame, recognition or to avoid embarrassment
Efficacy Expectation
Judgement of our ability to carry out a particular action effectively
Outcome Expectation
Judgement that an action once completed will lead to a particular outcome
Self-Actualisation
a point on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, in which a person reaches their full potential as a creative, deep thinking, and accepting person.
Terror Management Theory (tmt)
A perspective asserting that fear of mortality motivates behaviour, especially those related to self esteem Adsense of belonging.
Self-Efficacy
an individuals confidence that they can plan and execute a course of action to solve a problem
Self-Determination Theory
a persons ability to achieve goals and well being is related to their ability to control actions that lead to success in that aspect
Amotivation
Lack to motivation to preform a behaviour
Approach Goal
a pleasant incentive
eg. praise, financial reward, satisfaction
Avoidance Goal
an attempt to remove a negative
eg. embarrassment, losing money, emotional disturbance
Mastery Motive
enjoyment of the task rather than the reward
Performance Motive
for the reward
eg. financial gain, avoid embarrassment
