Human Infection and Response- Resistance Flashcards
What do painkillers do?
They treat symptoms but won’t kill the pathogens.
What are the 2 types of white blood cells?
T-lymphocytes (T-Cells)
B-lymphocytes ( Memory cells)
What are antigens?
Proteins that are found on pathogens. They are recognised by the immune system as being foreign.
What are antibodies?
Proteins produced by B-cells, they work by binding onto antigens on pathogens.
An …….. can only bind onto the anti… that caused it be produced.
An antibody can only bind onto the antigen that caused it be produced.
When a …….. enters our body, they ………, sending a signal to … The … send .-cells and.-cells to attack the …….. After this, the ..-cells form into …… cells.
When a pathogen enters our body, they reproduce, sending a signal to WBC. The WBC send T-cells and B-cells to attack the pathogen After this, the B-cells form into memory cells.
What do T-cells do?
Recognise antigens on pathogens and will either attack them or co-ordinate the activity of other cells.
What do B-cells do?
Recognise antigens and produce antibodies to destroy them.
