What is Ingestion?
The consumption of any food, drink or other substance htrough the mouth.
What is Digestion?
The breakdown of food into smaller and soluble molecules that can be absorbed into the blood.
What is Absorption?
The movement of digested food molecules through the wall of the intestine into the blood or lymph.
What does the mouth do?
Grinds and tears food into smaller peices.
What does the pancreas do?
Produces enzymes and releases them into the small intestine.
What does the stomach do?
Churns food with muscular walls. also produces protease and hydrochloric acid.
What does the salivary gland do?
Releases saliva (which contains the enzyme amylase) into the mouth.
What is Egestion?
Faeces (poo) passing through out of the body through the anus- POOPING
What does the liver do?
Produces bile, which breaks down fat.
What does the Gall bladder do?
Stores bile before it is released into the intestine.
What does the Small intestine do?
Digested food is absorbed here.
What does the large intestine do?
Where water is re-absorbed.
What does the rectum do?
Stores waste before it is excreted.
