Human impacts Flashcards
What are some of the human impacts on landscape?
Agriculture, transport, mining, forestry, industry, housing and energy - such as wind fames and collectors, coal- and gas- burning power stations, nuclear power stations and electricity transmission lines that transport energy to consumer.
What is an urban landscape made up of?
People and buildings. Earth’s surface is made up of 50% of the world’s population
What kind of landscape takes up 50% of Earth’s surface?
Urban landscapes
Why do humans alter landscapes?
Humans can alter landscapes through a variety of different activities as detailed above; such as agriculture, transport, mining, forestry, industry, urban areas and energy. This can include deforestation, land clearing, disrupting habitats, erosion, pollution etc.

EXPLAIN THE IMPACT THIS HAS ON THE ENVIRONMENT.
Agriculture involves the removal of endemic vegetation to create fields for crops and the raising of animals, negatively impacting surrounding ecosystems. Deforestation removes the habitat of local fauna as well as exposing topsoil that would otherwise bind the soil together, leading to soil erosion and a decline in soil fertility. This contributes to the loss of biological diversity, potentially leading to the extinction of species and a barren wasteland.
Ok now, write another explanation on what the impact of transport, mining, forestry, industry, housing and energy as on the environment.
Make sure to “this does that”
You explanation should be around
3 to 4 sentences long.
