Human Growth and Development pink Flashcards
Fertilization-when the sperm cell unites with the egg cell
Conception
Female gland that produces the egg cell (ova)and produces estrogen and progesterone
Ovaries
The master growth gland. In charge of all hormonal release
Pituitary gland
Deeper voice, shoulders grow broader than hips, facial hair and hair in pubic area, and acne
Male secondary sex characteristics

Hormones
Male hormone that is responsible for secondary sex characteristics
Testosterone

Testes
Monthly cycle (a period) female body discharges the non-fertile egg cell, blood, and tissue
Menstruation

Puberty
Female growth hormone, gives us secondary sex characteristics
Estrogen
The male sex cell
Sperm
Monthly cycle of ovary releasing an egg into the fallopian tube then the uterus
Ovulation
Gestation period: how long it takes from fertilization of the egg to birth (9 months)
Term pregnancy
An incision is made in the mother’s stomach to surgically remove the fetus (baby) because it can’t be born naturally
“C” - Section
Twins that are born attached to each other (the egg cell didn’t fully split into 2 eggs)
Siamese twins
For some reason the female gives birth before the full 9 month term
Premature
Twins that once were the same egg (the egg split after fertilized from one sperm cell)
1 eggs splits
Identical twins
Twins that are from two separate egg cells, fertilized by two separate sperm cells
2 separate eggs 2 separate sperm
Fraternal twins
Female organ that holds the developing baby inside the mother
Uterus
