How to treat a fracture, sprain, or dislocation
Immobilize, R.I.C.E.,and check with doctor
How to control bleeding
Direct=pressure right on top of wound or indirect =supply artery, elevate, ice
How to treat compound fracture
Bone protruding through the skin = indirect pressure for bleeding, ice, and immobilize
Treat for shock and start EMS
How to treat stroke or heart attack
Start EMS. Calm victim, loosen, constricting, clothing, keep them still, maintain body temperature
Symptoms- weak, fainted, feel like they want to vomit, chest hurts, one side of their body lost feeling and/or movement, pale, dizzy
How to treat minor cuts and abrasions
Control, bleeding, clean the wound (soap/H2O), apply triple antibiotic, cover
What are the symptoms of stroke or heart attack?
Dizzy, weak, fainted, feel like they need to vomit, chest hurts, body loss, feeling on one side
Signs of concussion
Dizzy, disoriented, lost consciousness, vomit treatment- no activity is allowed and must contact doctor
What is a sprain?
An injury to a joint- is treated with ice
What is a contusion?
A bruise- treatment is R.I.C.E.
What are the symptoms of being in shock?
Dizzy, pale, disoriented, (Play visible sign of loss of bodily fluids - blood, vomit, sweat)
What does ABC stand for?
Maintain an Airway, check for Breathing, and check for Circulation
Treat in this order
What is the universal sign of choking?
Both hands clapped around throat (victim, cannot speak or even whisper)
What is the heimlich?
Technique used to dislodge object and airway. (If they can whisper just stay close)
What is the carotid?
Supply artery to the brain. Found on the side of the throat. We use this to check your pulse.
What is a heat stroke?
Life-threatening-start EMS
Signs no sweat on 100° day, fatigue, dizziness, fever, faint
Treatment-cool victim immediately
get them inside to AC, or at least the shade if no AC, give them a cool bath
