Human-Decision-Making & Applications Flashcards
Rasmussens SRK model of decision making
Describes decision making as knowledge, rule or skill based. Responses exist on a spectrum based off of experience.
What is decision making
A task in which a person must (a) select one option from several alternatives, (b) interpret information from the alternatives, (c) has a long (non instant) time frame and (d) the choices include uncertainty/non-obvious
Stages of decision making
1 - acquire and integrate
2 - interpret and access
3 - plan and choose
4 - monitor and correct
Normative vs description decision making
Normative is a mathematical optimization approach whereas description accounts for human deviations including minimizing loss, short cuts and incorrect assumptions.
Heuristics and biases
Rules of thumbs that help make decisions.
Gamblers fallacy
if something happens more frequently than normal during a given period, it will happen less frequently in the future.
Implications for design
1 - task redesign instead of assuming the person needs to change
2 - choice architecture (defaults, limited options, concrete options)
3 - procedural
4 - training
