Human biology (Organelle functions) Flashcards
What does the vesicle do?
Transports materials throughout the cell.
What does the cell membrane do?
Determines which substances get in and out of the cell.
What does the golgi-body do?
Modify proteins and package them into vesicles for secretion of the cell.
What does the mitochondria do?
Releases energy for the cells through the process of respiration.
What does the nucleus do?
Contains genetic material (mostly DNA) for the cell.
What does the nucleolus do?
Makes ribosomes.
What does the lysosome do?
Breakdown materials that are taken into the cell or break down worn out organelles.
What does the ribosome do?
Join together with amino acids to create protein.
What does the endoplasmic-reticulum do?
Provides a surface of which chemical reactions can occur.
What does the centriole do?
Involved in the reproduction of the cell.
What does the cytoplasm do?
Thick fluid within the membrane and all the structures suspend in it.
What do the nuclear-pores do?
Allow small molecules and ions to freely pass, or diffuse into or out of the nucleus.
What does the nucleoplasm do?
A jelly like fluid within the nucleus.
