Human Activity 2.3b Flashcards
What are the negative impacts of climate change on the enviroment?
melting ice sheets and increased speeds of retreating glaciers makes sea levels rise. The Arctic melting could cause the Gulf Stream to move further South, creating colder temperatures in Western Europe. Rising sea levels will also cause coastal flooding, and hence the soil will become contaminated with salt, causing plants to die.
What are the negative impacts of climate change on people?
Increased temp at places near the Equator such as Africa’s Sahel can mean longer periods of less rainfall, therefore lower crop yield. Low lying islands like the Maldives face a higher risk of flooding from the rising sea levels - loss of beaches, more coastal flooding, loss of coral reefs, and islands may have to be evacuated.
