what are the high risk groups for developing pre-eclampsia?
- hypertensive disease during previous pregnancies 2. CKD 3. autoimmune disorders e.g. SLE, APS 4. T1DM/T2DM
when does BP usually fall in pregnancy?
1st trimester (especially diastolic), and continues to fall until 20-24 wks after this, BP usually increases to pre-pregnancy levels by term
what is HTN in pregnancy usually defined as?
systolic > 140 or diastolic >90 OR an increase above booking readings of >30 systolic or >15 diastolic
after establishing that the pt is hypertensive, what categories should they be put into?
- pre-existing HTN /
- pregnancy-induced HTN (PIH) a.k.a. gestational HTN /
- pre-eclampsia
what are the classifications for gestational hypertension?
how is moderate gestational HTN treated?
oral labetalol
what do you give a woman who has a hx of asthma for moderate gestational HTN?
BB contraindicated so give nifedipine and methyldopa
*methyldopa C/I in depression
