HSW Flashcards
accuracy
how close the result is to the true value
anomaly
a reading which falls outside the normal, expected range o meaurements
concordant readings
if repeated readings are identical or close to each other then they are described as concordant and are likely to be reliable
controlled variable
variables that are kept constant
dependent variable
the variable that is being measured
independent variable
the variable that is being changed
precision
smallest increment that can be measured e.g. cm or mm
reliability
the result of an investigation may be considered reliable if readings are repeated and concordant data is obtained. Achieved by repeating the experiment, removing anomalies and averaging the values
Validity
Measureing what you intent to - achieved by keeping all variable constant other than those under investigation
