Tail of the “tell” or “too from flag”.
- HSI Deviation scale -
Scale is 10* degrees in VOR mode
Scale is 2.5* degrees for LOC
GPS scale is 5NM enroute, 1NM terminal, and 0.3NM in area
Dial glide slope - deviation scale is for pitch angle (precision approach)
Radial is given by the tail of the triangle.
Point of triangle points to the NAVAID!!! (Not the large arrow)
Deviation bar is the COURSE! If the bar moves left, you are right of it!!
The TO-FROM flag will switch around when passing over the VOR - tells us we’ve reached an passed the VOR
NAVAID flag displays when signal received is not reliable
Locate course to be selected, move course indicator to new course, then turn until course deviation bar centers and then continue on the course
Course interception is always TOWARDS the deviation bar
Wind correction - deviation bar moves to the wind direction as you’re blown off course
+/- 5 degrees tolerance for VOR tracking
