what is it
A
- a high - speed railway, reducing journey times and connecting more places
- linking London with Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and eventually Scotland

- greater connectivity
- new jobs (estimated 40,000)
- less carbon footprint, eliminating need for air travel
- connects north and south, encouraging economic growth in the north

A
- cancelled - due to poor planning and being far over budget - money could’ve been re-invested on a more successful smaller project
- initially projected at 37 billion, rose up to more than 98 billion
- destroys land and habitats- more than 50% of habitats could’ve been lost overall
