How To Use Emegency Safety Equip Flashcards
What does PASS stand for and when do you use it?
Bcf fire extinguisher
P push up the red catch
A aim at the base of the fire (60 degree verticals)
S squeeze the handle(minimum of 10 seconds)
S sweep the flames (1.5-2 metres away)
What does PBE stand for
Essex protective breathing equipment
How do you check inflight serviceability of PBE
Check tamper prevention integrity is intact (TPIS) and check humidity indicator is blue in colour
How do you put on Essex PBE
- Grasp each oxygen cylinder in each hand away from body, visor facing body.
- Activate hood by sharply snapping oxygen cylinders away from each other.
- Do ‘prayer hands’ inside of neck seal, stretch open and pull over head.
- Full hood inflation takes 2-3 min but equipment is ready for use immediately.
- Discard if oxygen sound is not heard immediately
- Once activated oxygen flows between 8-10 minutes but enough oxygen remains in the hood to protect the wearer for a minimum of 15 min
- The flashing green ‘end of service’ indicator light is located inside the hood to the left just below eye level.
How do you discard PBE?
If PBE is taken from its stowage during flight and removed from its pouch but not used it must be placed in lavatory waste bin.
-cabin/ife logbook must be made noting location from which the unit was removed and the location in which it’s stored
Preflight serviceability check for single outlet portable oxygen cylinder
Between green band and full
Pre flight service ability check for multi outlet cylinder is
Pressure gauge is in the red band
How do you tell the flow rate on a single cylinder
High and low flow rates are shown in the indication window (eg 4lpm is high)
How do you tell the flow rate on a multi outlet cylinder
High and low flow rates are shown on the cylinders by an ink marking indicating HI or LO (both outlets may be used simultaneously)
What is the duration of a HI flow or 4lpm
70-75 minutes
What is the duration of a LO flow or 2lpm
140-150 minutes
Operation of use. Single outlet cylinder
- Ensure mask is plugged into cylinder
- Shut off valve until the number 4 is visible in the indication window
3.check flow of oxygen to the mask (green inline flow)
4.fit mask onto head - Advise csm and fill in cabin/ife log book. CSM to notify captain
- A passenger receiving oxygen should be checked every 15 min.
7.100 psi should be left
Operation of use of multi outlet cylinder
- Select flow rate by plugging mask into cylinder
- Shut off valve fully(anti clockwise) then turn back a half turn
3.check flow of oxygen to the mask (green inline flow)
4.fit mask onto head - Advise csm and fill in cabin/ife log book. CSM to notify captain
- A passenger receiving oxygen should be checked every 15 min.
7.100 psi should be left
Flight deck eros portable oxygen pre flight serviceability
Pressure gauge needle is in the red band
Operation of use for demand regulator- EROS outlet
How to connect a flight sect oxygen mask to a cylinder EROS outlet
- Disconnect flight desk mask from aircraft oxygen system. To disconnect flight deck mask from aircraft oxygen system, twist and pull the bayonet fitting located inside the EROS housing .
- Plug flight deck mask fitting into cylinder EROS outlet.
- Open the shut off valve fully(anti clockwise) then turn back a half turn.
With the cylinder turned on it will provide oxygen’demand’ - Fit mask (if not already fitted) and breathe
The maximum duration is 15 minutes (dependent upon respiration rate/workload).
Portable emergency locator beacon
Rescu 406S has what battery
Water activated battery
Portable emergency locator beacon
Rescu 406SE has what battery
Lithium battery
How long to beacons transmit for
A minimum of 48 hours
How does the antenna work on a portable emergency locator beacon in water
Antenna automatically deploys when tape dissolves in water
How does a 406S locator beacon transmit in water
Transmits automatically when immersed in water
How does a 406SE beacon transmit in water
Ensure the ELT dial is in ARM position prior to deployment in water
Beacon positions
-up right
-at the highest point
-in an area clear of obstructions
-the length of the retaining cord away from people
Using a 406s beacon in sea or water. How does it transmit?
Transmits automatically in water
Using 406se beacon in water. How does it transmit?
Ensure the elt dial is in the arm position prior to deployment in water
Using the 406s beacon in water/sea. What are the operation indications?
Nil
Using the 406se beacon in water/sea. What are the operation indications?
A flashing led will be visible after 10 seconds
Using a 406s beacon on land. How do you transmit?
Add a pouch of water to one litre of liquid to the attached bag. Lower the base of the beacon into the bag to cover the vent holes with liquid. Ensure holes remain covered.
Using a 406se on land. How do you transmit?
Turn the emt dial to xmt. No liquid is required for land activation.
Using the 406se beacon on land. What are the operation indications?
