HOW TO REDUCE THE DEVELOPMENT GAPP Flashcards
PHYSICAL FACTORS
1) A POOR CLIMATE - not much will grow, poor malnutrition eg.CHAD and fewer crops to sell so less money less to spend developing countries
2) POOR FARMING LAND - poor soil won’t produce alot of food
3) FEW RAW MATERIALS - make less money to spend on development
4) LOTS OF NATURAL HAZARDS - cause death and injury or disruption Eg . BANGLADESH flood regularly spend money rebuilding
HISTORICAL FACTORS
1) COLONISATION - countries have independence lower level of independence
European countries colonised much of Africa in 19th century and removed raw materials and made them dependent
3) CONFLICT - slow or reduce eg. Healthcare becomes worse and infant mortality increases money spent on rebuilding
Eg. UGANDA ( 10 years after still barely returned)
ECONOMIC FACTORS
1) POOR TRADE LINKS - poor trade links won’t make alot of money
2) LOTS OF DEBT - poor countries borrow money from other countries and ant money earned has to be payed back
3) BASED ON PRIMARY PRODUCTS - don’t make much profit form primary and prices fluctuate so don’t make much money
WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF UNEVEN DEVELOPMENT
1)WEALTH
Have a higher income
GNI UK 40 X CHAD
2)HEALTH
Healthcare more developed in highly developed
HIC Live longer (UK life expectancy 81 but CHAD 51)
Infant mortality (CHAD 85 per 1000 and UK 4 per 1000 births)
3)INTERNATIONAL MIGRATION
People seek to enter neighborhood countries - improve quality of life
Eg. Mexico borders USA 130000 Mexicans move USA Legally and thousands more illegally
