Terror - Hitler main weapon against his opponents was the SS. After 1934 it became a huge organisation and its main task was to terrorise German people into obedience. SS officers arrested people and imprisoned them without trial. Anyone who was brave enough to oppose Hitler were taken to concentration camps.
- Howerver ordianry people feared the Gestapo the most; Hitler’s secret police. The gestapo tapped telephones and spied on people. Anyone who criticised Hitler was in danger of arrest. The eyes and ears of the Gestapo were everywhere.

Propaganda - Hitler apointed Joseph Goebbels as Minister for propaganda. Goebbels introduced strict controls over what the German people read, heard and saw.

Youth: At schools, Hitler mad history lessons concentraded on the rise of Nazis and evils of communism. Pupils were also taught how they were superior to other races.
- 1936, all young people belonged to the Hitler Youth. This seeemed like a sort of fun Scouts group or Guides however the boys were actually being trained for obedient service and loyaly in the armed forces. Girls were being prepared for their role as perfect German mothers of perfect German children.

Economic success: After 1934 he created a number of schemes to provide work for the unemployed. Nazi Germany set up a scheme known as the Strength through Joy to organise the leisure time of the workers. They went on cut price holidays and started to save up for one of the ew Volkswagen Beetle.
