How Much Fuel? Flashcards
What is the required amount of fuel for a VFR Day flight?
To the destination + 30 minutes
What is the required amount of fuel for a VFR Night flight?
To the destination + 45 minutes
What is the required amount of fuel for a Domestic IFR flight?
Fly to the destination
Shoot an approach
Go on to the most distant alternate
Then fly 45 minutes at normal cruise
What is the required amount of fuel for a “flag” operation in a nonturbine or turboprop aircraft?
Fly to and land at the airport to which it is dispatched
Fly to most distant alternate
Thereafter, fly for 30 minutes plus 15% of the total time required to fly to the destination and the most distant alternate OR 90 minutes, whichever is less
What is the required amount of fuel for a “flag” operation in a nonturbine or turboprop aircraft if the dispatcher sees there is no specified alternate? What amount of fuel must be onboard the aircraft in order to be dispatched legally?
The aircraft must be able to fly to the destination and then fly 3 hours at normal cruise fuel consumption
What is the required amount of fuel for a “flag” or “supplemental” operation in a jet when outside of the U.S.? (4 Steps)
Fly to and land at the airport to which it is released
After that, to fly for a period of 10% of the total time required to fly from departure airport to destination airport, to which it was released
After that, if applicable, fly to the most distant alternate specified in the flight release
After that, fly for 30 minutes at holding speeds at 1,500 feet above the alternate airport (or destination if not alternate) at standard temperature conditions
What is the required amount of fuel for a “flag” or “supplemental” operation when no alternate is specified in a jet?
With no specified alternate, a jet aircraft must have enough fuel, considering wind or other weather conditions expected, to fly to the destination airport and thereafter to fly for at least 2 hours at normal cruising fuel consumption
