In the UK, criminal responsibility is 10 years old where as in China, it is 16 years old

- childhood is protected with laws such as working age and time restrictions , social services and safeguarding at schools

- forced to long hours in factories and in chimneys
- children were seen as mini adults to also provide for their families
- children would also face severe punishments by their employers and parents
