How is encryption used in current Digital Technologies?
Encryption is used in current Digital Technologies to protect personal information and top secret information; with Government related information receiving better security as the information could possibly cause harm if leaked. This is the same with Banks, Hospitals, Police Force etc. Encryption is used to keep private information from being leaked or accessed by others who aren’t allowed to view it as this information could be used for malicious deeds. For example, an online site such as Amazon that accesses credit card or bank account numbers. Amazon uses a two-way encryption, AES-128 (Advanced Encryption Standard), to protect their user’s personal information as if left unprotected, their user’s credit card or bank account number could be seen by others. This way, communication between the user and the site is private and can’t be seen by others. Especially in this current age where technology is somewhat advanced and people can grab IP addresses using simple websites; many people would possibly be able to view an unencrypted credit card number if there was a chance. Identity theft is a problem that could arise if the numbers are left unencrypted. People can access the credit card and use it online; for legal or illegal items however as the card is not under the hacker’s name, they wouldn’t be in trouble.
