How does energy travel through tropic levels? What is the 10% rule?
The organisms at the bottom have the most energy. As you move up the tropic levels, the amount of energy the next consumer gets decreases. The consumer only gets 10% of the energy that the previous organism had because the other 90% was used for life purposes.
What is the difference between food chain and food web?
A food chain is shown what is eaten, it only goes in one direction and shows the direction that energy flows from producer to top carnivore.
A food web is just a more complicated version of a food chain.
What are trophic levels and explain the trophic pyramid.
Trophic levels are the place in a food chain that an organism feeds. It’s in a pyramid because the higher you go up the smaller the population.
What is the difference between an energy pyramid, biomass pyramid and population pyramid?
Energy pyramid shows how much energy is available at each step of a food chain.
Biomass pyramid measure the amount of dry mass at each level.
Population pyramid shows how many individuals are at each level.
