How DNA Works Flashcards
DNA
A molecule that is present in all living cells and that contains the information that determines the traits that a living thing inherits.
Nucleotides
A sub unit that consists of a sugar, a phosphate, and nitrogenous base.
RNA
A molecule that is present in all living cells and that plays a role in protein production.
Ribosomes
a minute particle consisting of RNA and associated proteins, found in large numbers in the cytoplasm of living cells. They bind messenger RNA and transfer RNA to synthesize polypeptides and proteins.
Mutations
the changing of the structure of a gene, resulting in a variant form that may be transmitted to subsequent generations, caused by the alteration of single base units in DNA, or the deletion, insertion, or rearrangement of larger sections of genes or chromosomes.
