were divided over the issue - most members were pro the issue but differed on whether this should be on equal terms as men.

1906- many liberal candidates showed their support for the idea but in reality the 1906 gov had no intension

became more militant

what did the WSPU actions result in
meant that it was hard for the Gov to be seen giving into the violence and therefore became more reluctant to support womems suffrage
what was the Conciliation Bill
it proposed the enfranchisement of women on the Basis of householder or occupation franchise
what happened to the Conciliation Bill
Asquith was against it - he dint want female suffrage
other leading liberal such as DLG and Churchill were against because they thought most women would vote conservative
therefore the Bill failed and broke the truce between the WSPU an the Gov and led to increased violence by the women.
what was the franchise bill
nov 1911 - introduce to aim at full adult suffrage - it was withdrawn and this angered the WSPU even more
