why was there cultural revival

A

between 1893 and 1912 there was a peaceful period Ireland
Irish hadn’t expected hime rule to pass and the improvement in the land situation meant that home rule waste quite as essential
Gladstone 2 failed attempts to pass home rule was seen as commitment - so most irish thought they had to wait for a more favourable time

who was James Connolly

A

influenced by Marxist belief that socalism could only be achieved when the country had industrialised. Therefore needed Home rule to take control of the Irish economy so workers could take over industry

A

set up Sinn Fien in 1905 with the aim to set up a voluntary Irish Parliament to govern Ireland e.g. Civil service branch and therefore pretend ireland was independent and ignore british

INP won 84 seats which meant that the libs lose majority in H of L and INP was now more balanced of power and HR was top of the agenda

A

control of their police
private armies
irish parliament set up in Dublin - nominated senate and house of lords and they would have control over domestic issues but the uk would have control over rest
irish Mps could still sit in parliament - 42 allowed

Edward Carson leader of the Rep - wanted a ‘covenant day’ on the 28th of sept 1912 and some people signed it in their own blood
James Criag who was leader of Ulster unionist council held lots of protest meetings and rally

UVF = ulster volunteers force - most served in GB army - 50,000 members 
IVF = irish volunteer force - many also fought in GB army - leader Redman

Craig - against catholic church dominating editor and spoke a lot with Carson and other Ulster leaders he was proud of GB empire and didn’t want HR

A
cants expect HR because they believe the empire Gov shouldn't give into HR because it would make it seem violence was the way to get what you want 
also argued that because the liberals didnt hold referendum they dint have right to introduce 
felt hat it was another attack on property class and HOf L 
made a speech at Blenheim Palace in July 1912 where he talked about his conecerns with Ulster becoming armed
