Nobles needed Henry’s permission to marry
This helped control the nobles a, at the time marriage was a big and religious thing in which most Lords was expected to undergo. Therefore, since they needed Henrys permission, this encouraged them to keep in line and support Henry so that he may grant their wish to become married.
