3
Q
Glycolysis
A
a series of reactions that break down glucose to produce energy for cells.
4
Q
Krebs Cycle
A
a series of chemical reactions that completes the breakdown of glucose, releasing energy and producing carbon dioxide as a waste product.
5
Q
Electron Transport Chain
A
The primary task is to transfer energy from the electron carriers to ATP molecules
6
Q
Cellular Respiration Steps
A
- Glycolysis
- Krebs Cycle
- Electron Transport Chain
7
Q
Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex (PDC)
A
The PDC catalyzes pyruvate into acetyl-CoA
8
Q
PDC Process
A
- Pyruvate is decarboxylated, meaning a carbon dioxide molecule (CO₂) is removed.
- The remaining two-carbon molecule is then oxidized, and the electrons are transferred to NAD+, forming NADH.
- Finally, the two-carbon molecule is attached to coenzyme A (CoA), forming acetyl-CoA.

A
Acetyl-CoA, Oxaloacetate, NAD+, FAD, H2O
